I Listen to Things: Led Zeppelin Covers & Remakes

As a rule, I don't listen to music with lyrics while I'm working--but rules are made to be broken. Sometimes I just need some inspiration, and Amazon, Apple, YouTube, and other streaming services offer a cornucopia.

Unlimited economic progress is one of the themes in Strangers With Candy (and Mere Economics!). Almost exactly four years ago, I marked the death of Prodigy frontman Keith Flint by making this point, and not long after that, I reprised the theme with reference to "The Unending Creativity of the Spider-Verse." The second installment of the "Spider-Verse" series did not disappoint, and I was disappointed to learn that Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse probably isn't coming until 2026.

But there's plenty to keep me occupied while I wait. I enjoyed the 2007 Alison Krauss-Robert Plant collaboration, and some of its products are on YouTube. This led me down a bit of a rabbit hole where I found a few gems:

Here's Heart's cover of "The Battle of Evermore:"

For some reason, other videos aren't embedding, so here are links.

Plant & Krauss, "The Battle of Evermore"

Plant & Krauss, "When the Levee Breaks" at Glastonbury 2022

Alison Krauss & Robert Plant, "When the Levee Breaks" in Nashville, 2008, which I'd love to find in a high-quality recording. It's a perfect and haunting follow-up to Led Zeppelin's version.
