#FreeBookFriday: The Foundations of Mere Economics
A few years ago, I used to post #FreeBookFriday links to gratis ($0) books across my social media channels. It's time to bring that back. You can read or download books using the links below without paying for them. Here are a few recommendations that form the foundation of Mere Economics.
Adam Smith, The Theory of Moral Sentiments. If there's a "key text" in the Western tradition, I think this is it.
Adam Smith, An Inquiry Into the Nature and Causes of the Wealth of Nations. Its two volumes that can still be read profitably today.
James R. Otteson, The Essential Adam Smith. A brief and accessible guide to Smith's work and why it matters.
Ludwig von Mises, Human Action. This is the most important book in the Austrian tradition.
F.A. Hayek, Individualism and Economic Order. It contains his classic essay "The Use of Knowledge in Society" and other essays that provide a more elaborate argument.
Donald J. Boudreaux, The Essential Hayek. Like Otteson's book about Smith, it is a brief and accessible guide to Hayek's work and why it matters.
C.S. Lewis, Mere Christianity. I was surprised to find that this is in the public domain in Canada and happy that it's on Internet Archive. I have no idea what the legal ramifications of posting a link to a book that is in thee public domain in one country but not others. No matter what, I think it's a book you'll want to buy and have on your shelf or Kindle.
